COURT HOUSE – More than 100 guests gathered at the Avalon Yacht Club June 14 to experience Atlantic Cape Community College’s second Panorama of Possibilities. The event was the latest in a series of activities for “Create Opportunity: The Capital & Scholarship Campaign for Atlantic Cape Community College,” sponsored by the Atlantic Cape Foundation and the college, and hosted by Dr. Sandra Harmon-Weiss and Dr. Richard Weiss of Avalon.
To date, Atlantic Cape and the Foundation have raised more than $1.8 million of the $2.5 million goal in the college’s first capital campaign. Atlantic Cape’s Capital & Scholarship Campaign began in September 2009 and is expected to conclude in March 2013. The campaign offers investors recognition opportunities, and invites donors to support Atlantic Cape students through the creation of scholarship programs.
The Panorama of Possibilities event showcased a variety of core programs and new initiatives at Atlantic Cape. Guests were treated to gourmet delicacies prepared by the yacht club’s Executive Chef Peter Mark, and desserts prepared by Blue Dolfin Sweets and the Baked Pastry Shop, both in Marmora. The event also featured faculty and student poetry readings, a live performance by students in Atlantic Cape’s Performing Arts Club and speeches by Atlantic Cape students and alumni, who discussed how receiving support from college-based financial assistance programs made achieving their higher education goals a reality.
The event was coordinated by a committee of volunteers, including: Dr. Sandra Harmon-Weiss of Avalon, a member of the Atlantic Cape Foundation Board and Create Opportunity Capital & Scholarship Campaign cabinet and Panorama of Possibilities event committee chair; Matthew D. Moeller of Haddonfield, Create Opportunity Capital & Scholarship Campaign board gifts chair; Kristi A. Bergman of Medford, chair of ESL and Modern Languages and Create Opportunity Capital & Scholarship Campaign cabinet member; and Maria Kellett of Wildwood, director of major gifts.

Atlantic Cape established the Foundation in 1978 as a 501(c)3 nonprofit charity to build a broad base of financial support for its programs and services. Foundation members are drawn from local industry and small businesses and represent a broad cross-section of active leaders in the community. The Foundation has raised more than $5 million for scholarships, Foundation operations and to enhance academic programs and the campus environment. Annually, the Foundation provides more than $270,000 for institutional scholarships, grants and emergency help.
