Atlantic City Ballet brings the Nutcracker to Lower Township

By On Deck Staff

The Atlantic City Ballet, under the direction of international ballet star Phyllis Papa, will be performing the “NUTCRACKER” at the Paul W. Schmidtchen Theatre.
The Atlantic City Ballet, a professional ballet company, has performed the full-length version of the Nutcracker annually to sold-out houses in Central and South Jersey for the past twenty-five years.
Nutcracker is a family tradition that embodies the holiday spirit. It has been enjoyed by young and old and remains the most popular attended ballet in history.
George Balanchine was the first to bring this ballet to the United States from Russia where it was initially unsuccessful. Nutcracker is now the most famous of all ballets.
The company consists of 22 professional dancers from the U.S., Latvia, Korea, Japan, Georgia, Australia, China and Israel. The production is choreographed and directed by Miss Phyllis Papa, the founding director of the company.
Papa’s credits include: Principle dancer with the Royal Danish Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, and Stars of the American Ballet.
She is also the recipient of the 1998 Brazilian Gold Medal of Honor. Papa has choreographed over 30 ballets for the Atlantic City Ballet.
Atlantic City Ballet performs Nutcracker every November and December because of popular demand. This ballet is perfect for the balletomane as well as a new comer to the ballet.
The ballet has beautiful costumes and scenery. The music will enchant you. This is a must see.
The performance is at 7:30pm on Saturday, Nov. 28 at the Paul W. Schmidtchen Theatre, Lower Cape May Regional High School.
Tickets are $25 for adults, $22 for seniors and children are $15.
