AVALON — The official artwork for the 2016 Avalon Beach Tag was unveiled during a presentation at the Avalon Elementary School on Dec. 16. Avalon Elementary School 7th Grade student Anna Bond created the artwork that will be displayed on all seasonal beach tags during the 2016 beach season. The presentation was made to Anna by Avalon Business Administrator Scott Wahl.
“We want to congratulate Anna on a fantastic design that will be part of the 2016 Avalon Beach Tag program”, said Avalon Mayor Martin Pagliughi. “There were many terrific entries this year. Avalon is very proud of Anna and her efforts, and honored to feature her artwork on our beach tags next season”.
Anna’s beach tag features brilliant sunshine and cool ocean waves, along with an Avalon favorite, ice cream cones.
For the past 18 years, the Borough of Avalon partners with the Avalon Elementary School on a beach tag art contest. Mayor Pagliughi selects the winning entry and the student’s artwork appears on the seasonal beach tags for the following beach season. As a reward, the student gets a commemorative plaque, buttons with the art work on the beach tag, and the very first beach tag for the following year’s beach season.
Avalon’s beach tag program runs from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend. Seasonal, weekly, and daily beach tags are available for purchase. Avalon enjoys a reciprocal agreement with Stone Harbor; beach tags from both communities are honored on both beaches. Avalon also offers free beach tags for active members of the United States military and their immediate family members, and free beach tags for all veterans of the United States military.
