STONE HARBOR – Ocean Galleries kicks off the summer season Memorial Day weekend with guest artist Brian Davis, who will be in Stone Harbor with a collection of his lifelike floral paintings.
The Brian Davis exhibition, Flowers of Light, opens at Ocean Galleries (9618 Third Avenue, Stone Harbor) on Fri., May 25 and runs through Mon., May 28, 2012. Brian Davis will be at the gallery for receptions from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. on Fri., May 25, Sat., May 26, and Sun., May 27.
The exquisite artwork of Brian Davis hangs in some of the most sophisticated public and private collections in the world. His long list of fans include Quincy Jones, Barbra Streisand, Cher, Henry Winkler, the Ford family, and many others. In addition to hanging in prestigious museums, such as the Los Angeles Museum of Art, Huntington Library Art Collections and Botanical Gardens (San Marino, CA), and the Laguna Beach (CA) and Long Beach (CA) Museums of Art, his art graces the walls of numerous upscale hotels.
A native Californian, Brian loved art all his life and began experimenting with photography at a young age. Formally educated in Fine Art at Pierce College and California State University (Los Angeles), Davis was greatly influenced by the Dutch Masters, along with the artists of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco eras. Brian was also inspired by images of highly stylized renditions of birds and flowers for their intensity of color achieved by numerous layers of paint.
Using a similar process, Brian Davis begins a painting with the darkest shades of colors, representing the background, and then proceeds to bring layers upon layers of colors forward to achieve the three-dimensional quality of his technique, known as value painting. His perfection of the 19th Century French painting technique pouchoir gave Brian instant recognition as a serious painter and Master Print Maker.
Brian is a true artist with a vast understanding and knowledge of art. He has a cerebral view of paintings, stating, “My art, like all art, is, at its core, a form of communication that is not easily translated into words – good art transcends words.”
Ocean Galleries sought out Brian Davis to open the summer season. A big fan of the artist, owner Kim Miller explained, “It is such an honor for us to host this extraordinary artist and his collection of magnificent artwork at our gallery. His paintings are simply breathtaking – the flowers pop off the canvas, grab the attention of the viewer, and come to life from the detailed subtleties of light and motion. To be in the gallery when it is filled with this colorful and lifelike floral art will be a truly amazing experience.”
In celebration of this first time exhibition at Ocean Galleries, anyone purchasing original or limited edition artwork by Brian Davis during the weekend exhibition will receive a gorgeous 8” by 10” rose giclée on canvas, hand signed by Mr. Davis. Flowers of Light will feature a collection of original and limited edition art and is open to the public at Ocean Galleries (9618 Third Avenue, Stone Harbor, NJ) on Fri., May 25 through Mon., May 28, 2012. Gallery receptions with Brian Davis take place from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. on Fri., May 25, Sat., May 26, and Sun., May 27. Davis’ artwork will remain on display in Stone Harbor as part of Ocean Galleries’ diverse collection of exquisite art through Mon., June 25, 2012.
