WHITESBORO – The Cape May County NAACP and the Concerned Citizens of Whitesboro, Inc. held the Annual Prayer Breakfast for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 19.
According to a release, Cape May County NAACP President Alexander Bland and Secretary Wanda Shepard welcomed everyone to the annual breakfast with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Middle Township Chief Christopher Leusner and veterans’ advocate Joe Griffies.
T.J. Jefferson who is attending Willam Patterson University also sang the national anthem before the breakfast.
Middle Twp Mayor Timothy Donohue gave encouraging words and spoke about Martin Luther King Jr. which ended in prayer.
“Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. heard this call to compassion, and changed our world for the better. He sacrificed all, so that his dream of a more just and equal society for all, regardless of race or creed, might move closer to fulfillment, generation by generation,” stated Donohue.
Cheryl Spaulding from the The Concerned Citizens of Whitesboro, Inc. spoke on the importance of more youth interest in voting.
CCW President Bernard Blanks said a few words followed by a Martin Luther King quote “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”
Alexander Bland received a congressional proclamation on behalf of the Cape May County NAACP from U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-2nd). The new NAACP banner was presented by host Tracy Cardwell and Pastor Jonathan Whitfield concluded the breakfast in prayer.
