WILDWOOD – The American Legion Post 184, 4200 Atlantic Ave, Wildwood is collecting items for the victims of Hurricane Harvey in Texas.
Many persons have been displaced by the storm, and the post is collecting consumable items, especially feminine products, toilet tissue, clothing, dog and cat and any other animal food, and crates for transporting animals out of danger.
Commander Harry Weimar and a few other legionnaires plan to deliver those items and will leave Sept. 18.
“I hate to ask people for anything but this trip to Texas to deliver needed items got bigger than I thought. I am asking anyone who could help with gas and tolls to support this mission,” Weimar stated.
He added that a recent trip to New Orleans cost about $400 round trip.
“We will have about four trucks with trailers. I will bring back receipts to show what we spent on fuel and tolls. We are not renting a U-Haul because we may be bringing back some animals that have been displaced. Any money that is left over we will donate to the Salvation Army,” he continued.
“So please try to find it in your heart, these people are from our country, so let’s get together and help,” Weimar stated in a release.
Donations can be sent to American Legion Post 184, Attention: Commander at 4200 Atlantic Ave, Wildwood, N.J. 08260.
