SEA ISLE CITY – Aug. 4, the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol (SICBP) hosted their 42nd Annual Captain Bill Gallagher 10-Mile Island Run, which had over 1,500 registered athletes. The Island Run is one of the largest competitions in the region, taking place on a flat, traffic-free race course that begins and ends in front of the SICBP Headquarters on the 44th Street beach. The event’s race course runs along the Sea Isle City Promenade for approximately 2.5-miles, with the remaining distance taking place on the sand.
Cash prizes and trophies were awarded to the top male and female winners in the competition. Trophies also were given to the fastest runners in numerous age groups and other divisions, including firefighters, police officers, running clubs, beach patrol alumni and current lifeguards.
The overall winner of this year’s 10-Mile Island Run was Tyler McCandless, 25, of Boulder, CO, who finished the race in 54 minutes and 39 seconds to receive a check for $250. Kyle Dawson, 23, of State College, PA, crossed the finish line 16 seconds after McCandless to win the second place award of $150, followed by Kevin McDonnell, 22, of Moorestown, NJ, 55:25, who took home $75 for third place.
In the Women’s Division, Jessica DiCicco, 23, of Laurel Springs, NJ, received the lady’s first place award of $250 after crossing the finish line in 1 hour, 11 minutes and 40 seconds. Following behind DiCicco was Sara Belles, 31, of Brookfield, CT, 1:11:51, second place, $150; and Tyl Sadoff, 36, of Havertown, PA, 1:12:51, third place, $75.
