CAPE MAY – Under the authorization of the City Manager, the Employee of the Month Committee consists of voluntary Supervisors from each Department who will review nominations and select the winner for each month. For July 2023, the Committee selected Lt. Thomas Wyatt from the Cape May Beach Patrol.

Tom has been a dedicated member of CMBP since 1992. Tom was nominated by his peers especially because of his helpfulness to rookies and new lifeguards. Lt. Wyatt is the Beach Patrol’s training officer. He trains both returning and new lifeguards in CPR, AED, Oxygen, and First Aid. His important role is to prepare lifeguards to save lives on our beachfront.

“Lt. Wyatt goes above and beyond to help improve the swimming proficiency of his fellow lifeguards,” said City Manager Voll at Tuesday’s Council meeting when acknowledging Lt. Wyatt. “And he always does his job with a smile.”

Thanks to Lt. Wyatt conducting exercises throughout the summer, both in water extractions and back beach emergencies, his efforts have helped to improve safety numbers and overall lifeguard coverage.
