CAPE MAY and STONE HARBOR – Both Stone Harbor and Cape May held governing body meetings July 18. In both meetings, actions were taken to allow for the capital purchase of new fire trucks for the combination career and volunteer fire departments that support the two municipalities.

In Cape May, a bond ordinance was adopted to permit the acquisition of a new truck.

The Cape May truck that will be retired when the new one arrives has been in service for 28 years and will probably have to endure for at least two more given the lead time in delivery of this type of equipment post-pandemic.

The bond ordinance appropriated $1 million for the purchase.

In Stone Harbor, the truck being replaced is currently 15 years old. Fire Chief Roger Stanford said the new truck will not arrive for two to three years.

The resolution authorizing the purchase sets a maximum purchase price of $1.66 million.
