CAPE MAY – During the Aug. 1 Cape May City Council meeting, City Manager Michael Voll said the municipality is looking at options for the collection of recyclables. Currently, city workers perform this function.

Voll said the motivation for a review of the function is twofold.

“We are looking at possibly reducing costs and also preventing injuries,” he said.

Injuries to solid waste and recycling collectors are among the most common forms of workplace health and safety issues, according to the state Department of Health.

Voll said he hopes to have recommendations for council’s consideration in the fall.
