VILLAS – Lower Township residents will be able stay at home and call for their cannabis products to be delivered after the township acts on legislation to match state licensing laws.
The ordinance doing so was introduced by the Township Council on Monday, May 19, and is scheduled for a second reading, public hearing and possible vote on adoption June 16.
The change could affect Sea & Leaf, located in North Cape May, the only Class 5 cannabis retail license holder in the township.
In February 2021, the state, when it first developed its cannabis licensing laws, created six distinct classes of commercial cannabis licenses. Lower Township followed up in July 2021, authorizing the issuance of two Class 5 cannabis retail licenses and two Class 6 cannabis delivery licenses. Sea & Leaf has the only cannabis license of any type in the township.
The state amended the licensing law to read that any holder of a retail license may deliver its products to its customers, subject to all provisions of state law, including having approvals from the Cannabis Regulatory Commission.
