AVALON – The council heard a report at its Wednesday, Dec. 13, meeting on the bids for work at the 8th Street Sports Complex. The complex will see three new tennis courts built to replace the three tennis courts removed when the space allocated to pickleball expanded earlier this year. One basketball court is being removed to make room for the tennis courts.
The top bid came in 4% below the borough’s engineer estimate. The low bid of $298,000 came from Shore Top Construction, of Freehold. An actual award of the contract came later in the meeting. The borough expects the work to be completed in advance of Memorial Day 2024.
Business Administrator Scott Wahl informed the council that the borough has received a $78,000 grant for the project, which will cover a quarter of the cost.
