AVALON – Borough Business Administrator Scott Wahl says he expects work to start on the $8.6 million Bay Park Marina project sometime in February.

“We are finally out of the starting gate on the project,” Wahl said.

The long-delayed project will be done in two phases, with work from 53rd to 57th Street as Phase I to be completed by May 21, 2025, in time for the Memorial Day start of the summer season. It will include a turtle retention wall, new boat ramp, new dockmaster building, bulkhead work, a new parking lot, Americans With Disabilities Act-accessible kayak launch and a new pier at 53rd Street.

Phase II will pick up at 57th Street beginning Sept. 2, 2025, and run through February 2026. Phase II will include a new pier at 57th Street and punch-list items from Phase I.

Wahl outlined the construction schedule at the Borough Council’s Sept. 25 meeting, telling the council that a preconstruction meeting for the project was held the previous Friday, Sept. 20, with Fred M. Schiavone Construction of Malaga, which won the $8.6 million contract award with its low bid.

A schedule and reports on progress of the work will be available on the borough website, Wahl said.
