Opinions – Everybody Has One!

By Linda Tozer

These past couple of months the media has had much to say about America’s Freedoms, from the Supreme Court’s decision on same sex marriage to whether Americans have the right to fly a Confederate flag. People are easily offended by many things from Donald Trump’s view of illegal aliens, the President saying the “N” word in a interview, to calling Bruce Jenner a hero for being transgender.
Everyone has opinions! Each person feels very strongly about their opinion being the right one! Is my opinion any more justified than yours?
We are supposed to be a one nation under God. We as a nation elect public officials we believe will make decisions that reflect the majority of our beliefs. We do not always agree with the laws they pass. Sometimes we totally disagree, but they are the laws of this country that we must abide by.
Our country is made up of many religious denominations, cults, non-believers, and people of many nationalities who still practice beliefs of their countries. Our country is filled with different opinions on just about everything!
As a born again Christian, I have a “guide-book” that I believe was God-inspired. I choose to believe that living my life by the bible’s suggestions and parables will be the best life for me. My first and biggest command is to love God with all my heart, and all my soul, and with all my mind. The second is to love my neighbor as myself. (Matthew 23:37)
As a Christian, I believe I have no right to judge anyone on whether they are sinning or not! I do not expect a non-believer in Jesus Christ and His Word to obey it! We can’t change the world by telling them they are “sinning”, when they are only wrong because of what the Word of God says. They don’t know the Bible or care to follow it!
Christians need to stop condemning the un-believer for sins they don’t even know they are committing! Let the Holy Spirit convict the world to repent of it’s sin, and then each person can accept Jesus and change in their timing. It is a process, and we didn’t change over night. Let us not be so judgmental of those who don’t know they are wrong or right.
We need to stop yelling about what the unbelieving world is doing. It should be no surprise. We need to be an example of love unconditionally like Jesus was. We are “in” this world, but we do not have to be “of” this world. We are surrounded by people who need to know the love of Jesus. We just need to love them, not condemn them. Because we are around those sinning, does not mean we have to do what they are doing. It is always our choice, our free will.
The media makes it look like the majority of the world are for same sex marriage, transgender, homosexuality, and other sexual immoralities. I don’t see this as the norm. I think that there are many Americans that still believe that marriage is between a man and a woman, that children should be brought up with a father and mother, and that religious freedom still exists. Just because you personally may disagree with that, doesn’t make it wrong.
As we celebrate the freedom that our country has given us this 4th of July, remember to that we are blessed to have the freedom to do what we feel is right in our beliefs. Not all countries have this freedom.
