To the Editor:
On the death of former President Jimmy Carter, I want to share my appreciation for his poetry book “Always a Reckoning.” Two poems I will note show his love for his wife, Rosalynn. One is entitled “Rosalynn.” Rosalynn’s smile was the greatest part of Mr. Carter’s life to himself. In the poem “Hollow Eyes, Bellies, Hearts” the focus is on the apathy of the “rich and blessed.” Perhaps from the Carters’ work with Habitat for Humanity, Mr. Carter saw more “human debris” he refers to. No one by God is perfect, but I’m glad Jimmy Carter received the Nobel Peace Prize.
