Applebee’s Rumors No More Than That

RIO GRANDE – Rumors have been circulating on social media that Jester’s Dive Bar, the site of the former Rio Station, was going to be purchased by the Applebee’s chain.

The Herald has been able to confirm that no Applebee’s is planned for the location. Middle Township has not received any applications for a transfer of the liquor license or for a new mercantile license, each of which might be necessary for a change in ownership.

The Herald contacted Applebee’s headquarters in Glendale, California, and asked whether they were opening in Rio Grande or anywhere else in Cape May County. The company representative reported that there were no plans to open in the county.

The Herald also emailed the owner of Jester’s Dive Bar, but there was no immediate response.
