MIDDLE TOWNSHIP – A 13-year-old was killed and two others were injured in a two-car crash on Court House-South Dennis Road in the Cape May Court House section of the township on Monday.
The Middle Township Police Department was dispatched to the accident scene at about 4:45 a.m. June 23. A preliminary investigation determined that a Mitsubishi Lancer traveling southbound on Court House-South Dennis Road crossed into the northbound lane while attempting to pass another vehicle when it struck a Honda Accord.
A passenger in the Honda, a 13-year-old Sewell resident whose gender was not provided by police was taken to Cooper Medical Center, where the child was pronounced dead.
The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 26-year-old male from Woodbine, was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center-City Division for further treatment. The driver of the Honda, a 55-year-old-male from Sewell, was also transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center-City Division for further treatment.
Court House-South Dennis Road was closed for approximately five hours. The accident is still being investigated by the Middle Township Major Crimes Unit and the Middle Township Accident Crash Unit.
Assisting were the Goshen Fire Department, Cape May Court House Fire Department, state Department of Transportation and AtlantiCare Emergency Medical Services.
