Re: Unused sick days. In my over 30 years as a teacher I scheduled dentist appointments, doctor visits, colonoscopies, ultrasounds… etc. for non-school days. I came in to teach with sprains, when my back was out, and migraines. Why? Because w/ only 180 school days, I wanted to make sure the kids were getting as much instruction time as possible. If I called out sick I got my full salary AND the school had to hire a sub. At the end of my career I received only a fraction of a per diem for each unused sick day. The district and kids got a good deal.
