BELLEPLAIN – There were no injuries to either humans or animals reported following a two-alarm fire that destroyed a barn Monday evening, Oct. 6, authorities said.
The Dennis Volunteer Fire Company responded at about 6:25 p.m. to call on a structure fire in the 800 block of Sunset Road. Firefighters arriving at the scene found a large barn that was fully engulfed in flames, with exposure to a nearby house, necessitating a second alarm.
The fire was under control by around 7 p.m., and crews remained on the scene for an investigation and extensive work around the barn area using heavy machinery until almost midnight.
The Belleplain, Ocean View, Woodbine, Goshen, Leesburg, Heislerville, Avalon, Tuckahoe and Seaville fire departments assisted at the scene, along with AtlantiCare EMS, Upper Township EMS, the Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office, the State Fire Marshal’s Office, State Police and Atlantic City Electric.
