Indictments Filed Sept. 9

Readers are reminded that not only are all individuals listed below presumed innocent unless proven guilty, there may also be multiple individuals who share the same name, even in the same town.

COURT HOUSE – A Cape May County grand jury handed up 20 indictments Sept. 9. 

The abbreviation CDS below stands for controlled dangerous substance.  A “certain person” charge can be brought against individuals whose previous convictions bar them from having weapons. 

Ashton Lovelace faces a three-count indictment for possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose in the second degree, unlawful possession of a weapon, third degree, and making terroristic threats, third degree. The weapon was a BB gun.

Samuel L. Algarin was named in a four-count indictment for unlawful possession of a weapon in the second degree, certain person in the third degree, and two counts of possession of a prohibited weapon in the fourth degree. The weapon was a Walter Arms 22-caliber handgun. The prohibited weapons were a defaced firearm and hollow-point bullets.

Franklin C. Zeigler was indicted for aggravated assault and criminal restraint, both counts in the third degree.

Daniel Gonzalez-Martinez was indicted for throwing bodily fluids at a law enforcement officer in Cape May. The offense was in the fourth degree.

Edy V. Gonzalez-Navichoc faces a four-count indictment, with third-degree counts for knowingly leaving the scene of an accident with an injured victim and endangering an injured victim. Two-fourth degree counts were for assault by auto and driving without a license.

Montez H. Young-El was indicted for bail jumping after failing to appear for a hearing on charges that included an earlier bail jumping.

Rayvon C. Knight was named in a two-count indictment for sexual assault of a victim under the age of 13 and for endangering the welfare of a child, both counts in the second degree.

Rayvon C. Knight was indicted for the second time on the same day for two counts of aggravated assault, one in the second degree and one in the third degree, along with third-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, a spoon, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

William J. Carbone was indicted for third-degree possession of a CDS, methamphetamine.

Erina J. McPeake faces a single count of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer in the third degree.

Kenneth K. Powell was named in a four-count indictment, with third-degree counts for manufacturing, distributing or dispensing a CDS, cocaine, dispensing a CDS and possession of a CDS. The final count was in the fourth degree for hindering apprehension.

Mark W. Schmolze Jr. faces a three-count indictment for making terroristic threats and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, both counts in the third degree. The final count was for the unlawful possession of a weapon, a knife, in the fourth degree.

Sean P. Smyth was indicted on three counts, with a second-degree count of aggravated assault and two third-degree counts, for making terroristic threats and endangering the welfare of a child.

Nanette E. Styer faces two counts of third-degree possession of a CDS, methamphetamine and fentanyl xylazine.

John T. Murray was named in a two-count indictment, for unlawful possession of a weapon in the fourth degree and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose in the third degree.  The weapon was a hatchet.

Christopher G. Loperleveille was indicted for third-degree possession of a CDS, methamphetamine, along with two fourth-degree counts, for obstruction and certain person. The certain person count was due to his possession of a knife and his conviction in 2021 for burglary.

Arturo J. Brunell faces a third-degree count of theft.

Steve R. Baptisme was indicted on two third-degree counts, for aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.

Daniel J. Broughton was named in a seven-count indictment, a second-degree count for endangering the welfare of a child; four third-degree counts, for aggravated assault, making terroristic threats and two counts of possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, with the weapons being a knife and spoon; and two counts in the fourth degree, both for unlawful possession of a weapon.

Casey L. Longo was indicted for third-degree possession of a CDS, methamphetamine.
