NORTH WILDWOOD – The Police Department has arrested two Philadelphia men for possession of a weapon stolen in Pennsylvania and for related charges.

On Thursday, Aug. 14, the department received information that members of a group were in possession of a firearm in the area of 23rd Avenue and the boardwalk. Sgt. Melo located one of the men, identified as Paul Volpe, 35. He was found in possession of a firearm, a Sig Sauer P290 .380.

The firearm was found to have both hollow-point and round-nose bullets in the magazine. Volpe was placed under arrest on the scene.

Upon further investigation, video surveillance was retrieved from the area showing that an additional person, later identified as Jimmy Schultz, 24, had possessed the same weapon prior to police interaction.

A description of Schultz was provided to officers in the area as well as to the Wildwood Police Department. Shortly after, Wildwood officers located Schultz, who was arrested by North Wildwood police.

Volpe and Schultz were charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of hollow-point bullets and receiving stolen property. Volpe was also charged with certain persons not to possess a weapon.

The two men were placed on warrants as per bail reform guidelines and are being held at the Cape May County Correctional Facility.
