Dancing the Shore Away: Adam McDonough Brings Nashville Soul to Stowaways

Cape May might be Yankee territory, but Adam McDonough brings southern soul to the shore.

Hello, my friends! How’s your summer going so far? We’ve made it to the halfway point and are still swinging! This week I’ve got a super-chill vibe for you. I have been a little hesitant to write about this place because it’s my bi-weekly haven.

This week, I’m taking you down to Stowaways in Cape May. This is a sneaky locals spot. I spend a lot of time going back and forth across the Delaware Bay on the Cape May Lewes Ferry. Stowaways is hidden away at the ferry terminal.

What you may not know is how much they have going on down there. The scenery is so cool. There’s a beautiful open event space behind the building where summer concerts are held. The deck outside is huge, offering several different places to hang out. I really enjoy sitting at the outside bar on the deck. They have the cutest lounge area with plenty of seats for the whole family. Make sure you check out the upstairs event space for your next party or event. The panoramic views are top-notch.

Both inside and outside, Stowaways offers a full bar menu. The menu isn’t huge, and they do emphasize the seafood dishes, rightly so due to their location!

I’m a sucker for the Chickie’s and Pete’s crab fries. If you know, you know. They have a great selection of beer to cool you off on a hot day. The restaurant staff is half the fun. They are full of personality and great to have conversations with while waiting to board the ferry. Make sure you get to their website to check out everything they have going on. It’s way more fun than you would expect. Also, you can watch the boats come in and dock, which is really cool.

Stowaways is a great place to sit and grab some Crab Fries, even if you aren’t catching the ferry.

The last trip down to Delaware I took brought a fun surprise. I was able to catch Adam McDonough. This man has carved a nice little gig out for himself. If I understood his website correctly, he hails from Nashville and you can hear it in his voice.

His vocals are deep and sultry while he accompanies himself on the guitar. He was a solo act covering all your favorite songs. There was definitely more of a country feel to him which I loved. Adam seems like he can do a little bit of everything. From country covers that sound like his own, he’s also done extensive collaborative work. Some of his collaborations were up for Grammy consideration.

I have to be honest with this one. I only had the chance to hear a couple songs, I had a ferry to catch. But I was really impressed with what I saw. His site has some of his original tunes, several of his own music videos, and a list of the collaborations he has worked on.

The part that caught my attention, though, was his custom songs page. He will custom-create a song for you or a loved one. This is probably one of the coolest ideas I’ve come across lately. Imagine, that loved one who has everything and is impossible to buy for. This will take the cake for the best gift ever! I may look into this for some of my loved ones.

You have a few more opportunities to catch Adam in August. He will be in Cape May on August 18. Otherwise, you’ll have to catch the ferry with me to Delaware to catch a couple of his shows. Either way, I highly recommend you check this guy out!
