SEA ISLE CITY – In his Tuesday, Nov. 14 report to city council, Sea Isle City Mayor Leonard Desiderio said the city had finally “received permission from the New Jersey State Comptroller to advertise for construction bids for our future community center.”
The center has been a subject of discussion, and at times controversy, since 2019 when the mayor gained council’s authorization to move ahead with plans for the center. A $20 million bond ordinance for the center was adopted by the city council in early 2022. In 2023 the site for the new facility was prepared by the demolition of the old public school building at 4501 Park Road.
Desiderio said at the Nov. 14 meeting that the advertisement for construction bids has already been issued and the city is scheduled to receive bids in the latter part of December. The construction bids will clarify the actual cost of construction and the schedule for completion. The city has been working with an estimated expense of $20 million.
“All of us have spent a great deal of time and effort to advance this project, and we’re one step closer to making the community center a reality,” Desiderio said.
