NORTH WILDWOOD – Two seasonal North Wildwood Public Works employees were recognized, Sept. 19, for the live-saving assistance they gave a city resident who experienced coronary artery issues while dropping off items at the North Wildwood Convenience Center.

The Convenience Center is located W. Oak Avenue and allows for household waste and recyclables to be dropped off rather than being placed at the curb waiting for trash pick-up.

On Sunday, Aug. 6, North Wildwood resident Kevin Cassidy was visiting the Convenience Center when he unexpectedly collapsed. Hugh Coleman and William Britt, who were both first-year seasonal Public Works laborers, saw Cassidy collapse and immediately responded to give care. While waiting for North Wildwood EMTs to arrive they administered CPR, assisting Cassidy to regain consciousness. Within five minutes after Cassidy collapsed, EMTs appeared on the scene to further assist Cassidy and transport him to a nearby hospital, where he underwent six hours of open-heart surgery.

Cassidy was present at the Sept. 19 North Wildwood City Council meeting, where Coleman and Britt received plaques bearing the proclamation carrying accolades for their efforts, which undoubtedly saved Cassidy’s life. Cassidy also received a plaque containing the proclamation and well wishes for his continued recovery.
