AVALON – Avalon Business Administrator Scott Wahl said that a dolphin washed up on a borough beach at approximately 2:40 p.m. April 16.

Wahl added that the Marine Mammal Stranding Center, in Brigantine, was notified and will conduct tests on the dolphin before the carcass is buried on the beach by the borough’s Public Works Department.

Most recently, Sea Isle City was the scene of a mass stranding of eight dolphins, all of which eventually died despite efforts to save them. This Avalon stranding has renewed calls on social media for a halt to offshore wind development activities. There are also calls for Gov. Phil Murphy to speak out on the increase in sea mammal fatalities. Murphy has thus far had others in his administration address the issue.
