CAPE MAY POINT – Shortly before 11:30 p.m., on Thursday, Oct 8, Cape May City Police were dispatched to the Lehigh Avenue beach for a report of a body floating in the water. Shortly after the Cape May Point and Cape May City Fire Departments were dispatched to the scene with the Cape May Beach Patrol for a water rescue.
On Oct. 9, Cape May police identified the victim as a 63-year-old female from Abington, Pa.

Responding units arrived on scene and reported the victim was dead on arrival. Police requested the medical examiner as well as the prosecutor’s office to the scene.
Detectives on scene were investigating the beach location where the body washed up at and a Toyota Prius with Pennsylvania tags parked on Harvard Ave. Detectives took several photographs while searching the car.
Police said preliminary investigation has indicated the incident was a planned suicide. An autopsy was scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at Shore Memorial Hospital.
