AVALON – At the May 24 Avalon Council meeting, Business Administrator Scott Wahl informed the governing body that the borough received the results of its 2022 Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Community Rating System (CRS) verification, with the municipality successfully retaining its coveted class 3 status.
That status entitles borough property owners to a 35% discount on National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) premiums.
At present, Avalon is the only community in the county with a class 3 CRS status. Sea Isle City was previously a class 3 community but dropped to a class 4 community in April when points granted following Superstorm Sandy expired. Sea Isle officials say the city expects to regain its class 3 status by October.
In that same September to October timeframe, Avalon will undergo its full annual CRS recertification. Wahl said the borough’s goal is to move up to a level 2 status, which would be accompanied by a 40% premium discount for flood insurance.
