PETERSBURG – Jan. 6 brought elected officials and the public together at Upper Township’s municipal building to celebrate the annual reorganization of its local government.
The opening of the meeting was marked by a rendition of the national anthem performed by student Mia Pancoast, daughter of Mark Pancoast, a police officer in Ocean City who was elected to a full, three-year term on Upper Township Committee in November 2022 and took his oath of office from Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian.
Victor Nappen II, a science teacher at Millville High School who won a first term of three years on committee in November 2022, took his oath of office from Dean Marcolongo, county surrogate.
Both Pancoast and Nappen ran unopposed as Republicans for the two seats that were open on committee.
Also, during the meeting, Committee member Jay Newman was selected by the governing body to serve as mayor, replacing Curtis Corson who had served as mayor for one year.
Committee member Kim Hayes was selected as deputy mayor.
Randy Jenkins, interim pastor at Second Cape May Baptist Church, gave both the opening invocation and closing Benediction.
