A 67-year-old Dorchester woman was seriously injured in an accident involving two pickup trucks on Route 347 in Maurice River, State Police said.

According to a State Police spokesman, on Monday, Oct. 21, at 4:03 p.m., troopers responded to a two-vehicle accident on Route 347 north, at milepost 5.3. Police said a Ford Ranger pickup truck was traveling westbound on County Route 550, approaching the intersection with Route 347, while a Ram 1500 pickup truck was traveling northbound on Route 347, approaching the same intersection.

The Ford failed to stop and entered Route 347, causing the Ram to collide with the driver’s side of the Ford, police said.

Crews from the Leesburg Volunteer Fire Company responded to the scene, in which there was an entrapment of the driver, who suffered serious injury. A medevac helicopter was requested while crews worked on extricating her, and she was taken to a local hospital.

According to information provided by the Leesburg Fire Company via Facebook, the crews had the victim out in seven minutes and began support care. An additional ambulance was requested for a passenger in the Ford, who sustained minor injuries.

Fire police were added for road closure, after which state Department of Transportation workers arrived to relieve fire police for the closures.

State Police said no other injuries were reported, and the identity of the driver was being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.

The crash remains under investigation.
