WILDWOOD – Police arrested two men and charged them with robbery and other counts in connection with a home-invasion incident on Sunday, Jan. 28.

Police said in a press release that they received a 911 call reporting a home invasion in the 200 block of East Bennett Avenue on Jan. 28 at around 1:30 p.m. The caller told dispatch he had been assaulted by two men who entered his home and removed certain items.

The caller was able to provide police with a description of a van the intruders used to flee the scene and its last known direction.

Wildwood officers located a van matching the description of the suspects’ vehicle several blocks from the crime scene and attempted to stop it. Police said the driver refused to stop, and after a brief, low-speed chase, the suspect drove into flood water and struck a stop sign. Both men got out of the van and tried to flee on foot but were captured after a brief pursuit.

Police identified the suspects as Robert McMichael, 38, of Wildwood, and Scott Hudson, 31, of West Wildwood. After an investigation by the Wildwood Police Department and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, both McMichael and Hudson were charged with the following offenses: Second-degree robbery; second-degree conspiracy to commit robbery; second-degree burglary; second-degree conspiracy to commit burglary; third-degree theft; third-degree eluding; third-degree possession of heroin; third-degree unlawful possession of a weapon; fourth-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose; and simple assault, a disorderly persons offense.

Hudson was additionally charged with another third-degree count of unlawful possession of a weapon; fourth-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose; and a fourth-degree count for certain person not to possess a weapon.

McMichael and Hudson were lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center.
