HENRY HUNTINGTON
Henry Huntington Seward (Harry), born July 29, 1931, in the Forest Hills neighborhood of Queens, New York City, passed away peacefully at his home in Cape May, NJ on February 25, 2025.
Harry attended Yale University in 1949 on an ROTC Scholarship. After graduating Yale in 1953 with a bachelor's degree in economics, he proudly honored his military commitment which turned into a 22-year career with the United States Air Force, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. The Air Force afforded Harry the opportunity to continue his passion for knowledge and education. Harry attained his MBA from Michigan State University in 1963. In June 1973, Harvard University bestowed Harry with the degree of Doctor of Business Administration.
During his service with the Air Force, he completed the prescribed courses of instruction of the Air Training Command specializing in Basic Observer Navigator Bombardier. As a Captain, he was honored by the Strategic Air Command and presented with a Membership in the B-47 1000 hour club for Outstanding Airmanship. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force in June 1975, Harry enjoyed a long and successful career as a Business Executive in the field of Military Defense contracting. In addition to work as a Business Executive, Harry shared his knowledge and taught as a Professor at Northeastern University (Boston), Rutgers University (Camden) and City University of New York.
Harry was fortunate to spend his retirement in beautiful Cape May, New Jersey where he continued to enjoy his passions for boating/sailing, woodworking, reading (Harry was an avid reader of History and non-fiction), crossword puzzles, long walks and enjoying vacations with his large family. Harry was an animal lover and shared his home and unconditional love with his cats, and his beloved dog Bella.
Harry is survived by his sister Elizabeth Ellis of Winchester MA, his six children, Ellen (Tom Poussart), William (Karen), James (Debrah), Lowell (Kimberly, predeceased) , Celia (William Hawkes) and Arthur (Lisa), his 14 grandchildren, Elissa Seward, Philip Buch, Andrew Buch, Thomas Buch, Christine Seward Edwards, Katherine Seward Farynuk, William Seward, James Seward, Christopher Seward, Justin Grahsler, Elizabeth Seward, Ryan Seward, Alison Seward Anderson and Julia Seward Bennett and finally his 10.5 great grandchildren, Madison Short, Cole Harris, Brooke Farynuk, Hudson Farynuk, Graeme Edwards, Oliver Edwards, Stephen Grahsler, Crew Fishman, Magnolia Anderson, Judah Anderson and Lillian Buch (due May 2025)
In the last 7 years of his life, Harry was fortunate to stay in his home due to the love and companionship of his beloved caretaker Hannah Arthur. She was and is a devoted friend to Harry and is considered family. Hannah referred to him fondly as Grandfather or Professor Seward. Last year, Hannah named her first child Ellen after Harry's daughter Ellen.
Harry is predeceased by his first wife, the mother of his six children, Beverly Riley Seward and his second wife Eileen Seward.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects Wednesday, March 5th from 10-11AM at Evoy Funeral Homes in North Cape May, NJ. Funeral Services will be celebrated at 11AM immediately following the viewing. LAWRENCE, STEPHEN WAYNE Stephen Wayne Lawrence, 79, passed away on March 26, 2025. Born in Washington DC, he was the son of the late William Joseph Lawrence and Geraldine Ellington Lawrence.
