COURT HOUSE – Rehab Excellence Center, newly opened in Cape May Court House, wants to help patients on their road to recovery. The new clinic opened in May of 2023, and already works with patients of all ages, backgrounds, and needs.
Robert Hicks, the original CEO and founder of Rehab Excellence Center, has over two decades of experience in the physical therapy space. The center’s first location opened in Pennsauken, New Jersey, in 2001. New locations opened across South Jersey where they were needed; Rob stressed that there was a great need for another physical therapy clinic in Cape May County.
His work has taken him throughout New Jersey, but Rob is a Cape May County local. He grew up in Stone Harbor and attended Middle Township High School. He is the founder of the hugely popular Stone Harbor Triathlon, which takes place every July.
Cape May Court House, centrally located between the county’s 16 municipalities, is a convenient location for the new rehab center. Unlike many larger hospitals and physical therapy centers, Rehab Excellence Center makes sure that new patients can have their first appointment within 24 to 48 hours.
“It’s important that we provide intimate one-on-one care,” Rob said.
It is important that patients not wait for days and weeks for their first appointment because early intervention leads to early recovery.
The center is staffed with a full-time clinic director, Colleen Goodwin, Master of Physical Therapy (MPT). Colleen has spent most of her life in Cape May County. She served as a clinic director for Bacharach Institute for Rehabilitation in Cape May Court House until the institute’s closure in March of 2023. She brings decades of patient-focused experience to her new role at Rehab Excellence Center.
Colleen grew up in Philadelphia but moved to Ocean City as a young adult. She graduated from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia and moved to Upper Township mid-career.
“I love this job – I get to see my patients get a little bit better every day. It’s unusual not to have positive outcomes. I always feel like I’m making a positive difference in people’s lives,” Colleen told the Herald.
Colleen was excited to join the team at Rehab Excellence Center –the new location in Cape May Court House gave her the opportunity to run her own office.
When her old physical therapy employer closed, several of her patients wondered how they could continue to receive care from Colleen. Her old patients were excited to return to their sessions with Colleen in a new setting.
Both Colleen and Rob are lifelong athletes. Rob is an avid runner, skier, and surfer. Colleen played basketball and softball in college and teaches classes at CrossFit 609, a fitness center she founded in Dennis Township. They both know the pain that comes from sports-related injuries and the ways that a good physical therapist can help.
Last fall, Rehab Excellence Center merged with Twin Boro Physical Therapy, led by CEO Andrew Lotsis; this new collective partnership serves New Jersians across 51 locations in 17 counties.
Rehab Excellence Center is taking new patients – they offer a variety of physical therapy needs, including general orthopedic, sports medicine, spine, arthritis, pediatric care, and vestibular and concussion rehabilitation.
