Re: ‘School Boards Hope to Hide Tax Increases From Voters’

By Elizabeth Champion, Dennis Township

To the Editor:

After reading the Review & Opinion entitled, “School Boards Hope to Hide Tax Increases From Voters,” my level of concern has increased regarding the situation in Dennis Township schools.

Holding a special election seven weeks prior to a general election is fiscally irresponsible in a district claiming to be in dire financial straits. The article stated that Middle Township’s cost for the special referendum is $43,000. I can only infer that Dennis Township’s cost is in the relatively same ballpark.

I believe the Board of Education has made a serious error in judgement and I have become mistrustful. I simply cannot vote “yes” when I have serious reservations about the motives and rectitude of the board.
