Welcome Home, Vietnam Veterans March 29

By Richard Nelson, West Cape May

To the Editor:

I believe it is important to make sure everyone is aware that March 29 is Vietnam War Veterans Day. Being a veteran (Korean War) and a member of Cape May VFW Post 386, I have many member friends who are locals who were drafted and served in Vietnam.

When I returned from Japan, I was treated great, contrary to the Vietnam veterans, who received such horrid treatment when they returned home.

March 29 was chosen as National Vietnam War Veterans Day because it was on that date in 1973 that the last U.S. combat troops departed the Republic of Vietnam.

March 29 is a way and the day to thank and honor these veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice. Especially in the Cape May area, these veterans are your family, neighbors, and friends who, after being drafted, returned, and are still residing with their families and grandchildren.

March 29 is to be remembered this year and every year to honor these men and women who still suffer from so many things they brought home from serving our country in Vietnam.
