Under Attack from Within

By Kevin McKinney, Court House

To the Editor:
“Let no man deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.” Ephesians 5:6
When Speaker of the House Paul Ryan suggests that President Donald Trump is just a little “unconventional” and that “is something we’re just all going to have to get used to,” there’s something ‘bigly’ wrong.
One gets the feeling the speaker would say the same if Daffy Duck somehow was elected president, just as long as he was a Republican.
We can’t pretend that everything is hunky dory. It isn’t. Our country is under attack from within. Environmental protections, Wall Street regulations, health care, and a free press are all on the chopping block.
Look no further than Trump’s multi-millionaire and billionaire cabinet choices he’s surrounded himself with, to know that his priorities are clearly not “the people,” but his corporatist pals.
It’s been suggested in the Herald’s opinion pages recently that we give Trump a chance, but a chance to do what? Strip this nation of its democratic ideals? Enrich his family through various business conflicts?
My fellow Christians, remember, the world is watching. We absolutely need to pray, hope, and believe for the best. And revival certainly is born out of the most troubling of times. But overcoming begins with honesty. Christians should never be beholden to a political party.
