Thanks St. Babs Owner

By Donna Eleby, Villas

To the Editor:
This is a thank you to Will Keenan of St. Babs Church for taking care of the adjacent cemetery where many of my loved ones are buried; from my great grandparents in the front row, to my most recent relative, my grandmother, who passed in May 2014.
At that time, the church and cemetery were up for sale and was vacant for many years. Our family had to endure tall grass up past our knees, uneven and sinking ground, and even trash laying around while carrying my grandmother to her final resting place in the far back corner of the forgotten cemetery.
I dreaded going to visit my grandmother as well as my other relatives because of these conditions. Where was the community uproar when this happened?
I could go there on any given day and I was always the only person visiting anyone in this cemetery. As I visited my grandmother March 13 for her birthday this year, I noticed a positive change.
I could now easily walk to the back of the cemetery without tripping over broken or falling tombstones, all trash and debris are now cleared, and there is an actual path. I didn’t fear falling into a hole while walking back to visit my grandmother, and even the trees in the back are all trimmed and not consuming the last row of the cemetery anymore.
I had the opportunity to meet Keenan at my most recent visit. He is a down-to-earth, genuine person trying to help the community.
You can see his interest in the history of the people who lay to rest here and the intent to preserve the church and cemetery while also helping the living. Thank you for being the person that did something for this dilapidated property.
