Show Appreciation to Help Reduce Burnout

By Tom McNutly, Diamond Beach

To the Editor:

A little while ago, I started giving $1 to those in a low-pay job that provides a service, but normally do not receive a tip. Examples are gas station attendants, cashiers at food stores and drive-thru take-out windows, casino restroom cleaners, and several others.

I shared this with a local neighborhood website, and the positive response was overwhelming. Watch the smiles on those in those jobs.

I always thank them sincerely. Often the thank you is worth more to them than the $1. If we show appreciation maybe, just maybe, the burnout will be lessened.
