To The Editor:
High school students have a number of challenges to overcome before they attend college. Why is it that every cumulative task these high school students have completed for four years aren’t given as much weight as a four- hour test such as the SATs?
Too much importance has been placed on a false test. At best, SATs measure mathematical and literary skills, but cannot pinpoint work ethic, willingness to learn, or the student’s eagerness in school, which is really what a college should be looking for in a student.
For colleges to demand minimum SAT scores shows that they place too much emphasis on insignificant scores of a test when they should really be looking at the qualities that make a student a student, not just a test-taker.
