Route 55

By William Watson, South Dennis

To the Editor:

I am a Cape May County native and a current property owner in Dennis Township, and I am intractably opposed to completing Route 55 at the expense of any wetlands or woodlands, and I am not alone.

Cape May County has sacrificed enough environment to the insatiable forward march of developers, who will not accept any restraint until the barrier islands sink under the weight of vehicles.

Speaking of which: With a foot of ocean water rise coming (not theorized) in the next 30 years, a completed Route 55 would still be a road to nowhere, and with a foot of ocean rise in the next 30 years, the heavy traffic on 10 weekends a year won’t be an issue in any event.

Spend the money somewhere else on something truly necessary rather than on a new four-lane restricted access boondoggle that will be obsolete before the asphalt hardens.

Spout Off

Stone Harbor – Could the North Wildwood spouter tell us what kind of company he refers to that has already gotten tariff increases. Waiting for the reply spout!
