To the Editor:
As a sincere voter and a patriot at heart, I do my best to listen intently to what is said by those running for office. I try hard to hear the message they proclaim and also read between the lines, not only for my own discernment but also to contribute to discussions with others, especially those of my own family and loved ones.
I know many of us are either out of touch, trying hard to make sense of such complex issues or just plain disinterested in the political landscape and the bloated bureaucracy that is choking this great nation, stunting our growth and robbing us of our independence.
I completely understand folk’s cynicism. However, like you, I long for a better way. I believe, and I know, since I have witnessed his talk and his walk, that Deputy Mayor Dan Lockwood longs for this better way also. I am grateful for that and also very grateful for our Mayor Tim Donohue. Lockwood and Donohue have proven to be a worthy and competent team in their leadership of Middle Township.
I wish to share my thoughts on this important race and what I heard our Deputy Mayor Dan Lockwood say at a recent speaking engagement:
Dan complimented his opponent.
Dan made his points without criticism.
This caught my attention, and what I was so proud to hear from Dan Lockwood was this:
If it were a contest about who is the “nicest guy,” well then it might be a tougher choice. However, if we are to be realistic, it’s more about getting the job done and improving upon the accomplishments already made and making more good choices and wise decisions for Middle Township.
I was very impressed by that and it made a lot of sense.
Jeff DeVico is a nice guy, but that’s just not enough in my opinion and would take us in the wrong direction. In a front page article in the newspaper Oct. 8, Jeff DeVico says it’s time for change! We have already changed! Changing again means going back from where we have come from already. Which really means going backwards. That’s how I see it and that’s how any objective voter should see it.
DeVico wants change, but not too much, not too soon. He admits not knowing how the budget is put together. He wants to review and tweak. The Lockwood-Donohue Team has already done all this work. They are continuing to bring positive change and are always open to innovative ideas and new approaches to better government.
If DeVico wishes to be the voice of the people, why has he not brought those topics to light or to committee? He has been a hometown boy for many decades. Why has he not already been a part of the solution? Why has he not attended even one township committee meeting? The change DeVico wants is a step backwards. This can’t happen to Middle Township. Too much good work has already been done.
Thank you Deputy Mayor Dan Lockwood for the commitment and energy you bring on behalf of the citizens, and especially the taxpayers, of Middle Township. I have already cast my vote for you to keep the Lockwood-Donohue Team together and our town moving forward.
