Flag Poles

By Regina Polsenberg, Avalon

To the Editor:

Years ago, many homes in Avalon had average size flagpoles to display the American flag and see which way the wind was blowing. Today, the poles are high enough to fly a huge flag and up to four side flags.

As well as the American flag, they display the colleges attended, political views, cocktail hour, etc. These flags often block their neighbors view of sunsets and nature.

The huge electric poles lining the streets serve a purpose. Oversized flagpoles are often unnecessary.
