To the Editor:
For so many years the country has not been decisive regarding policy, whether it is the President or Supreme Court or Congress. The progressive Democrats take us forward, and the Republicans take us backward.
For example, The Dems tried to implement a health care plan. Now the Republicans attempt to repeal and replace. With regard to the Supreme Court, the Republicans will eventually turn the court conservative and thus, reverse Roe v Wade.
Don’t these zero-sum policies amount to standing still over time? Attempts have been made to bring health care to the forefront. We are the only civilized country in the world with no decent system of health care. Why? Politics.
Yes, the insurance companies and big pharmaceuticals do quite well. They just about own the so-called political leaders.
As to other areas that will not get done, what kind of an unnecessary wall will be built and at what cost?
How much infrastructure will be built? Not much, and remember, we’re broke.
How much “clean” coal will be produced? Considering there is no such thing as clean coal, how long will it be before we get our priorities straight? Perhaps never.
How many wars do we need to totally bankrupt us? It was all structured wrongly in 2003, and we were sucked in to the tune of trillions.
Let us not forget the Iraq War and the stupidity that brought us there, and now, the entire Middle East.
How many policy changes since 2003? Now we have a new administration to set a new tone. We should be focusing on so many other areas.
Have you noticed the price increases in all areas? Joseph Stiglitz, a Nobel Prize-winning economist, spoke to this years ago. What are we doing about it?
Talk and promises and divergence will typically drive us backward. I think we no longer can rely on decision-making or a voter-involved public to do the right thing.
Our president has so much rhetoric to spout. Our Congress is only interested in passing capitalistic laws such as tax reform and unworkable health care.
These laws will benefit big pharma, the banks, and insurance companies.
Other countries, although paying higher taxes, are not concerned with health care, education and or retirement.
I’m sure in Scandinavia they have so much less angst. What will we do with the trillion dollars student loan debt? The banks, government and credit companies have benefitted from our students who are heavily in debt and can’t find work. Such is life in America.
A young American president once said, “Ask not what your country can do for you.” We then had leadership. A man we’ll never see the likes of again. Today we’re stuck with Mitch McConnell (R-KY) who works for his party and himself. How can we win with leaders like that?
Wildwood Crest – Several of Donald Trump’s Cabinet picks have created quite a bit of controversy over the last few weeks. But surprisingly, his pick to become the next director of the FBI hasn’t experienced as much…
