Allow Hereford ‘Friends’ to Continue at Lighthouse

By Eleanor Ward, Dunkirk, Md.

To the Editor:
I understand that North Wildwood Mayor Patrick Rosenello and council are going to take over the management of the Hereford Inlet Lighthouse and remove the current Friends of the Hereford Inlet Lighthouse volunteers. This makes no sense to me.
The lighthouse has been restored with historical accuracy by the volunteers, and they want to continue to care for this historical structure and surrounding gardens. The gardens are award winning and also started out as sand; now they are beautiful gardens taken care of by the volunteers.
Don’t the mayor and council have other priorities? Instead of removing dedicated people who have managed to take care of the property for many years, successfully, they should be able to continue.
