To the Editor:
“When our days become dreary with low hovering clouds of despair, and when our nights become darker than a thousand midnights, let us remember that there is a creative force in this universe, working to pull down the gigantic mountains of evil, a power that is able to make a way out of no way and transform dark yesterdays into bright tomorrows. Let us realize the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice.” Martin Luther King, Jr. said to believe in a creative force to make bright tomorrows.
I know many unemployed people who may not have read King, Jr.’s writings. The quote above is his. If one has time to keep faith with our country’s human rights leaders who fought to keep people working with dignity, I recommend the book, “I Have a Dream, Writings, and Speeches by Martin Luther King, Jr.” I imagine the library has the book available upon request, although I planned to buy a new book for myself for Christmas and this one was it.
For Martin Luther King, Jr. Day this year, make a note that 1929 was the year that our leader was born. It was a year before my father was born, and three years before my mother was born.
But I pray that my parents and I will get to shake hands in heaven with Dr. King and his wife, Coretta, for a happy meeting in agape love.
The book I mention defines Agape as “understanding creative, redemptive good will for all men and women.”
