Every mother knows, when her child is screaming because he’s fallen and scraped his knee, the best way to deal with the situation is to divert the child.
This tactic mothers use on children has been in heavy use these last number of weeks by the supporters of Planned Parenthood. The nation is aghast over what video clips have revealed about Planned Parenthood, about their cutting up live babies for their organs. Supporters of that agency are burning the midnight oil seeking means of damage control, and the approach they have primarily settled upon is the “Quell the Crying Baby” ploy.
Their ploy goes like this (my words): “97 percent of what we at Planned Parenthood do relates to women’s health issues, so can we please focus on that?” Then they go into a litany of all the other services they provide. By time one has listened to this long list of things, his mind, they hope, has been successfully diverted.
However, the question was never about how many good things Planned Parenthood provides; it was about the atrocious moral offenses they engage in. The defenders assume the public ability to think is no greater than that of a child – easily diverted.
While an adult may patiently wait while the deception is laid before him, when it is his time to speak, he will respond something like this: “What you are telling me is – 97 percent of the time Planned Parenthood is doing valuable work. 97 percent of the time my husband is an excellent husband; he never misses work; he brings home a good living; he works with the children on their homework; he helps with the dishes and even washes my car. But 3 percent of the time he beats me within an inch of my life.”
Another method is the “Strident Defense” tactic. This one requires a lot of gall, great hubris, and much practice. In order to pull it off, the one giving the defense assumes the stupidity, or at least the timidity of the one he’s trying to manipulate. He assumes an aggressive air, suggesting, anyone who would deign to question him would have to be an imbecile, or at a minimum, someone totally out of keeping with the times.
In one instance where I encountered this, I grew speechless. Running it through my head afterward, I said to myself, “You mindless sucker — never fall into that trap again.” Elizabeth Warren employs both of these tactics masterfully in her attempts at vindication of Planned Parenthood’s deeds.
There is the possibility I am wrong about the way I interpret those defending Planned Parenthood. It is possible they fully believe Planned Parenthood’s actions are morally correct, and thus their defense is genuine. If this is the case, I am sickened.
It is one thing for people to do things which they know are wrong, then to get caught, and then to explode defensively. It is a much worse thing altogether for them to see no moral transgression. Such people are to be, not only pitied, but fought against with all available means.
These revelations divulge the enormous depth of the moral nadir to which the administration in Washington has fallen. Let us hope and pray the vast majority of Americans are not swayed by deceptive speech, or come to accept such vile immorality, and that we all call these revelations for what they are: heinous butchery, gross barbarity, and dreadful depravity. Further, the fact that the administration defends this ought to tell us a great deal about who they are.
