An Ocean City police officer was convicted of simple assault after a trial in municipal court earlier this month, court records show.

Christian D. Palzer Jr., the officer, was convicted of the disorderly persons offense in Somers Point Municipal Court on Tuesday, Dec. 5, according to court records. Palzer had pleaded not guilty to the charge after a complaint was filed March 5, relating to an incident the day before.

Court records show a domestic violence surcharge was included in Palzer’s $365 in costs and fines. No details of the incident were included in the records. According to a report in The Press of Atlantic City, Palzer was suspended with pay from the Ocean City force pending an internal affairs investigation.

John Tumelty, Palzer’s attorney, told The Press he has appealed the conviction in Superior Court.
