Salt Marsh Safaris
Starting in the Marsh View Hall, you’ll see our award-winning film, Secrets of the Salt Marsh. Then head out along the salt marsh trails for a guided interpretive walk of the wetlands. The trail can be muddy, so be prepared!

Get up close with terrapins, crabs, sea stars, and horseshoe crabs. Meet our special Research Creature, and learn all about how our scientists use microchips, radio tracking, and more.

Get your feet wet as you find out what swims in the back bays. Help a naturalist drag a seine net to find crabs, shrimp, and more.

Dune & Beach Walks
Everyone likes to visit the beach, but what do you know about the plants and animals that actually live there? Avalon had the foresight to maintain a section of maritime forest and dunes that once covered the entire island. Join us for an interpretive walk along the dune trails to learn about the flora and fauna that call the beach their home.

Hooked On Fishing
Need something to do while you’re waiting for check-in time on Saturday? Go fishing! We’ll teach kids how to bait a hook, cast a line, catch the fish, and reel it in. We’ve even got fishing poles and bait! Get your family hooked on fishing for a lifetime of fun.
