COURT HOUSE — High winds from a March 6 storm downed 25 utility poles on Stone Harbor Boulevard causing the busy roadway to be closed at approximately 1:15 p.m.
According to Atlantic City Electric spokesman Frank Tedesco, the downed poles caused 3,500 customers to lose power. Included in that number was Cape Regional Medical Center. Tedesco said the hospital switched to generator power for a short time but power to the facility has been fully restored. “Cape Regional Medical Center is running under its normal power.”
Crews assigned to the area were able to restore power to approximately 3,300 affected customers.
“Approximately 130 customers are still without power,” Tedesco told the Herald at 7 p.m., noting Atlantic City Electric hopes to restore power to those homes by the early afternoon hours of March 8.
“Our crews are working as quickly and as safely as possible to restore power,” Tedesco said.
“Despite difficult conditions, we’re responding as quickly and safely as possible to outages that have been scattered across the service territory,” said Vince Maione, Atlantic City Electric Region President.
Stone Harbor Boulevard remains closed to all traffic from Bayberry Drive eastward.
Atlantic City Electric urges customers to stay clear of any downed wires and report them to the company by calling 800-833-7476, or report through the utility’s mobile app or Web site, AtlanticCityElectric.com .
