School’s out for the summer, and it feels like the season is in full swing.
Life is certainly busy in Ocean City this week, with lots of fun events to check out.

Today is International Surfing Day, which will be celebrated from 6 p.m. until dark at the 59th Street Beach.
The event is sponsored by the South Jersey Chapter of the International Surfrider Foundation and is held to promote environmental awareness.
Activities include a beach clean-up, a sunset surf paddle, live music by the Silance, food, children’s games and give-aways.
“International Surfing Day allows surfers and ocean activists an opportunity to give back to our Mother Ocean and our favorite stretch of sand,” says Steve Mullen, Foundation member from Northfield.
“This is a unified, world wide effort to ultimately protect our ocean and environment for future generations.”
The Ocean City site was selected because Mayor Henry S. Knight and Council have been cooperative in expanding surfing beaches and supporting the sport, notes Mullen.
Knight recently issued a proclamation designating June 21 as International Surf Day here.

Have you noticed that the new tennis courts at Sixth and Atlantic Avenues in Ocean City are open?
Well, it’s true, and there will be a “net raising” ceremony and doubles tournament on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. to celebrate the new facility.
It won’t be necessary to bring a partner to the doubles tournament. You can be paired with another individual, notes Phil Birnbaum, director of the Ocean City Tennis program. There will be prizes for the winners and refreshments.
There are ten new courts, and five are lighted.
Charge for the courts is $8 an hour. The City also offers tennis facilities at 16th and Simpson avenues and 34th and West avenues. For information call 609-525-9306.

There’s nothing like cruising in a gorgeous car down at the beach, but it’s also lots of fun to admire other nice cars.
This Saturday, you can do just that as over 300 vintage automobiles will be displayed at the Tabernacle Grounds from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free.
The event is sponsored by the Jersey Cape Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America and also includes old time fire engines and army vehicles.
Following the show there will be a boardwalk parade from 14th to Sixth Street.
