Sea Isle Blvd. Paving Set to Resume Week of Jan. 14

SEA ISLE CITY – Paving operations will resume the week of Jan. 14 along Sea Isle Boulevard from the Garden State Parkway northbound entry ramp to the westerly approach of the Ludlam’s Thoroughfare Bridge. 
According to a release, this phase of the paving will result in the long awaited removal of the temporary concrete construction barrier resulting in the roadway being placed in its final cross section configuration. 
At the end of the paving operation, the roadway will contain two paved thru lanes and paved shoulders.  The riding surface will consist of an intermediate paving course for the remainder of the winter, the final asphalt surface course will be installed in the spring.
 It is anticipated that paving activities will begin either Jan. 15 morning if temperature are favorable, or Jan. 16 morning if Tuesday’s temperatures are too low.
If conditions are favorable for Jan. 15, paving will begin at 7 a.m. and run continuously until Jan. 16 around 6 a.m.  The contractor will have multiple crews working simultaneously in order to expedite the paving process and minimize impacts to motorists. 
Sea Isle Boulevard will always remain open, however there will be lane shifts and traffic will be reduced to one lane with alternating traffic for periods of time. Both the State Police and Sea Isle City Police will be on site lending assistance with the traffic control and to maintain order. 
Motorists should expect delays, and are encouraged to avoid the construction area if possible.  Motorists needing to travel the roadway during the construction period are urged to use caution for their own safety and for the safety of the workers. Since some paving operations will occur during night hours, visibility will be limited.
 On Jan. 15 beginning at 7 a.m., one paving crew will be milling and paving the existing west bound lane and shoulder area beginning just east of the northbound parkway entrance ramp and extending east to approximately 2,000 feet west of the Ludlam’s Thoroughfare Bridge west approach.
Two lanes of traffic will be maintained within this construction zone.  This portion of the paving operation should end around 5 p.m.
Beginning around 5 p.m. and continuing until around 8:30 p.m., the ramp to Old Sea Isle Boulevard will be closed and this ramp and the adjacent lane and shoulder will be milled and paved.
It is anticipated that two lanes of traffic will continue to be maintained until around 7 p.m., at which time milling  of the west bound lane and shoulder will begin starting from the bridge approach and extending east for about 2,000 feet.
It is anticipated that this paving operation will last from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. and will consist of installing multiple layers of asphalt in order to meet the final roadway elevation. 
During the time from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m., traffic in this construction area will be limited to one lane using flaggers to direct motorists. This operation is occurring overnight in order to minimize traffic delays.
Also occurring from around 10 p.m. until approximately 6 a.m., another paving crew will be milling and paving the roadway in the vicinity of the north bound Garden State Parkway entrance ramp.
Two lanes of traffic will be maintained at this location, but expect delays.  There will be periods of time when there will be no access to the north bound ramp from Sea Isle Boulevard.  It is anticipated that the paving operation should be completed by 6 a.m. following the start of paving.
On Jan. 16,  while paving is being completed , the proposed temporary striping will be laid out and the roadway will be striped. It is expected that this will begin at approximately 2 a.m. of the 16^th and be completed by 8 a.m. of that same morning. 
Motorist should expect delays and lane shifts, however, traffic will be maintained. By Wednesday late in the morning, it is anticipated that motorists will be utilizing the roadway in its final striped configuration.
